Tax Incentives for Historic Properties

While the HPOZ review board authority is limited, Windsor Square residents and homeowners are encouraged to voluntarily apply strict preservation standards to the entire property in order to protect its historic integrity. It is important, however, that homeowners who intend to apply for the Mills Act or other tax incentive programs contact the Planning Department first before engaging in design or rehabilitation efforts.

Because the Windsor Square Preservation Plan exempts many projects from review, a property may lose Mills Act eligibility even if the work is consistent with the Plan’s preservation guidelines.
